Costa del Sol (sun Coast) is located in the South of Spain. This southern part of land along the Mediterranean coastline has for many years been a quiet fishing village. However, over the past 2 decades Costa del Sol has been transformed into one of the most sought after beach destinations. It used to be a travel destination for the locals and the nearby French and Spanish tourists, but this has all changed today. Gone are the small fishing boats and dinky dinghies. Today, this community with its 150 miles of coastline has some of the most elegant hotels and probably the best beaches on the European continent. The popularity of the beaches has made tourism a major business in the area. The excellent all round weather, the soft sandy beaches and the turquoise blue waters have made it a major attraction for tourists. All the beach areas have excellent facilities and there are ample water activities. The most famous of the beaches in Costa del Sol include the Benalmadena, Fuengirol Torremolinos and Marbella. The beaches are exceptionally well maintained and have all the public amenities, including very clean toilets. Snorkeling, scuba, jet skis, parasailing and skidoo are all available here. Unlike other parts of the Mediterranean Sea, the waters in this part of the country are calm, serene, pristine and warm. The sand is invitingly soft and white. Costa de Sol is not only a place to tan, but it is a place where families can have an excellent vacation. Next to these beaches, are many types of entertainments. Varieties of water parks have been created; there are zoos, go karts, waters parks and picnic facilities. The eastern part of the Costa del Sol is different from the western area but offers great scenic views. Going further up east, one can see the enormous cliffs with their rugged rocks. Some of the best sunrises can be seen from here. The beaches on the eastern coast include the Calahonda and Cala Ocidentales. Both are popular among tourists. Walking along these beaches one can come across small coves whose views are breathtaking. The western coast of Costa del Sol is highly populated and very urbanized. This is where tourists come to stay and have fun. Most of the towns including Malaga have become urbanized with modern buildings, bright villas, condominiums and fancy shopping plazas. All the towns have been developed to cater to the tourism trade. In most towns, there are excellent marinas, boardwalks and piers. Hotels of every kind are available, from the luxury to the quaint ones for the average family. For the golf lover, Costa del Sol is paradise. There are many excellent golf courses around the area and they attract golfers from all over the world. For the food lovers, there are plenty of restaurants which offer a wealth of excellent cuisines. For the night lover, go to Marbella about 50 km away from Malaga. There are ample discos, bars and clubs. Even at midnight, you will see some of the latest fashions and trends.
