Dubai has become one of the most famous tourist destinations in the Middle East. Oil has turned this desert into an oasis of some of the most glamorous buildings in the world. Dubai is one of the 7 emirates in the UAE and the most famous. Thee economic boom that has been running for almost a decade has people flocking to the UAE in the millions. Everyone wants a piece of the pie, Dubai is a city which can not be described in words. It has everything, the tallest buildings, richest sheiks, the most expensive hotels, the fastest cars, the most car accidents and yes even the world’s worst traffic jams.

Dubai is a cosmopolitan city and also has one of the largest airports in the Middle East. Dubai also has its own airline, Emirates. Emirates is fast catching on with many of the European Air carriers and serves almost all major cities in the world.

Traveling from Dubai is relatively easy as long as you can get to the airport. The Dubai international airport serves almost all major European airlines. The arrival of many immigrant workers and tourists has outgrown this tiny airport and congestion is a daily occurrence. The lines are along everywhere and there never is a place to sit and relax. One reason why Dubai airport is very popular is because if offers duty free shopping which is probably the cheapest. From every major European city, there are several fights to Dubai every day. In addition, Emirate airlines also flies to hundreds of European destinations each day.

If one has no means of getting to Dubai, one can fly out of several other airports in and around Dubai. The entire emirates can be traveled in 4-5 hours and the next largest airport is located in Sharjah. It also has daily flights out to many European destinations. Sharjah is located 30 minutes away from Dubai.

Still a 3rd choice is fly to Abu Dhabi. This is probably the richest of the UAE Emirates and the nicest. Unlike Dubai, it is less congested, much cheaper to live in and spacious. It also offers an international airport and has its own airline: Eithad. In just a few years, Eithad airlines has grown to become a big league airline and competes equally on terms with almost any major European airline. Form Dubai to Abu Dhabi is only 60-90 minutes by car, depending on the traffic.

Also being built is the new airport known as Maktoum International (after the ruler of Dubai). This has been hyped up to be the largest airport in the world and is under construction. While it has started cargo flight, passenger service will not start for another 5-8 years.

One minor negative about UAE airlines is that even though they are quite cheap compared to many other airlines, they are often over booked and the seats are cramped. Most of the staff on these UAE airlines are not locals and the service is pretty poor.

To fly to Dubai, always check out Emirates or Eithad airlines first. In general, they have the cheapest fares to any destination. Airfares to Dubai from most destinations in Europe cost about $400-$600 Euros.
