Berlin is the capital city of Germany. It is a largely metropolitan city with great attractions for tourists. Berlin is especially known for its vibrant night life, for its bars, restaurants, clubs and cafes. A number of museums are also found in Berlin and it also hosts invaluable historical content. During World War II, Berlin was severely destroyed during the Nazi backdrop. The people did however manage to reconstruct it and over the years, Berlin has taken over several different architectural designs. Medieval design can still be seen in buildings near Alexanderplatz, yet the same city holds sophisticated ultramodern designs such as the glass and steel structures in Potsdamer Platz. Berlin has more than 150 museums. These museums boast of a collection of ancient historical artifacts and art. Other museums play host to contemporary art work. If you are planning to visit Berlin, there are so many places to go and things to do you cannot be done in a month. Airfare to Berlin is very reasonable and many tourists who travel to Berlin each year, usually go to the site where the Berlin wall once stood. This was where Germans from east and west broke down the confines of the wall and decided to live as one people and one nation. Another must-see when in Berlin is the Potsdamer Platz. It is located in the former East Berlin and it is full of contemporary architecture. This area came up in the 1990s and has turned out to be a vivacious area full of activity. Anyone looking for excitement should definitely visit. Pergamon museum is one of the most memorable of all museums. The front entrance is made up of the reconstructed Babylonian gates. Carry your camera, this is one place you will want your photo taken. Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche symbol is the tower of the original church destroyed during World War II. You will find this structure standing in the centre of Breitscheidplatz. It is supposed to serve as a reminder of how atrocious war can be. It was laid out by a contemporary architect and it is something that looks really odd, like ghostly fingers reaching for the sky. If you don’t believe me, then you will have to see for yourself. You will not have really toured Berlin without visiting the Reichstag. This is where Germany’s parliament convenes. It was constructed in 1884 and 1894 and is one of Germany’s historical landmarks. Visiting the Zoologischer Garten Berlin, which is the oldest German zoo, is something worth your while. The zoo is home to a variety of different exotic animals and birds and you will find it is also home to Knut the polar bear. Throughout Europe, Berlin is known for the exciting night life. Whatever your taste in music is, be it techno, punk or rock, you will always find a club for you. There are also countless pubs and cafes where you can enjoy a drink with a new found friend. Travel to Berlin and be sure to have the time of your life whether touring with friends or alone. |
