The Maidens Tower holds the legend that back in ancient times, Macedonia’s King Phillip buried his wife in an unknown tomb there. Yet another legend tells of Leandro and Hero. From ancient greek mythology, the legend tells that Leandro fell in love with Hero. Every night, Hero would light a fire on the rocks outside of the tower so Leandro could swim his way across to her. One ill fated night, the fire went out. As Leandro drowned in the cold waters, Hero took her own life. There are other legends as well and when told by the locals, have much more flavor. The Galata Tower was one of 24 built to protect and oversee the city. From the tower there is a magnificent view of a wide area. In fact, one of the most scenic views of Istanbul can be had from the 9th floor of the Galata Tower. There are no shortages of shopping opportunities in Istanbul and perhaps the opportunity to take in a Bazaar or two. Whether an open air market is preferred or an enclosed building, Istanbul shopping is something to experience. It is quite a different experience than one would find in the UK or the US. Experience the lifestyle and the culture browsing through the shops in Instanbul. It wouldn’t be Turkey without Turkish Baths. There are 8 Turkish Baths from which to choose tickets from.
